Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup milk Can use milk alternatives.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Frying
  • Vegetable oil For frying.
  • Powdered sugar For dusting.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Frying
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil, frying a few at a time until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  3. Remove beignets with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serving
  1. Dust with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy warm!

Notes

Be sure the oil is at the right temperature and use a slotted spoon to carefully drop the dough into hot oil. Dust generously with powdered sugar for the classic look and flavor. For variation, add chocolate chips, nuts, or citrus zest to the dough.
