Ingredients

For the beef mixture
  • 1 lb Ground beef Use a mid-fat blend for flavor and moisture.
  • 1 cup Finely chopped onion For sweet, savory depth.
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt Balances flavors and seasons the beef.
  • 1/2 tsp Coarse ground pepper Adds a mild, sharp bite.
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Gives umami and slight tang.
  • 1/2 cup Chopped pickles For crunch and bright acidity.
For the secret sauce
  • 1 cup Secret sauce A creamy mix that ties the sandwich flavors.
To assemble
  • 2 cups Shredded lettuce Adds fresh crunch and contrast.
  • 4 slices American cheese Melts easily for a creamy layer.
  • 4 buns Hamburger buns Sturdy buns work best for stacking.

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the beef until it loses its pink color. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Stir in chopped onion, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until the onion softens and flavors meld.
  3. Fold chopped pickles into the beef and heat for a short minute to blend tastes.
  4. Whisk sauce ingredients in a bowl until smooth and combined. Taste and adjust for balance.
  5. Pour one cup of sauce into the skillet and stir to coat the meat evenly. Reserve extra sauce for assembly.
  6. Layer bottom bun, sauce, lettuce, cheese, beef, middle bun, more sauce, lettuce, pickles, more beef, and top bun.

Notes

Use medium heat for even browning. Drain excess fat to avoid greasy sauce. Chop pickles small for better flavor distribution. Warm the buns lightly to prevent sogginess.
