Preparation
- In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper.
- Form the mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties and let them rest while you prepare the gravy.
Cooking
- In an oven-safe skillet, brown the patties for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions in butter until tender.
- Add the flour and stir for about 2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the beef broth and cream until the mixture is smooth.
- Nestle the browned patties into the gravy and cover tightly.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or bread to soak up the gravy. For extra flavor, add spices or herbs like thyme or Worcestershire sauce. Customizations like bell peppers or mushrooms can be added for variation.
